DescriptionEccleston Park war memorial Prescot. Photo 2 by Phillip Medhurst 1992.jpg
Eccleston Park War Memorial, Liverpool. Height 21 ft. It features a pedestal surmounted by a bronze figure of a youthful soldier raising field glasses to his eyes with his left hand and holding a revolver in his lowered right hand. A young woman with her arm outstretched towards him, offering a branch of laurel, stands at the foot of the plinth. On each side of the pedestal are relief panels. One features marching soldiers, the second airman, the third soldiers with camels and the fourth a naval scene. Unveiled in 1922. In 1992 when this photo was taken, the memorial was behind railings and a locked gate. The surroundings were much overgrown. Work arranged by Walter Gilbert in association with Louis Weingartner, Donald Gilbert and H. H. Martyn of Cheltenham. Modelling: panels by Walter Gilbert, figures by Louis Weingartner. Casting by H. H. Martyn of Cheltenham. Photo by Phillip Medhurst. Bronzework 1922. Photo 1992. https://www.scribd.com/doc/17256374/Walter-Gilbert-Main-Inventory
