Description

Early publicity photo of Danny Thomas. He was still performing in Detroit and using the name Amos Jacobs at the time. The photo back indicates that he was working at WMBC radio and also performing at a Detroit cafe. Thomas worked at WMBC from 1932 to 1940 on a local radio show called The Happy Hour Club. He moved to Chicago in 1940 and it was there where he changed his name to Danny Thomas.

Date

There is no date on the photo; it can be dated from the time Thomas started on local Detroit radio in 1932 and his move to Chicago and change of name to Danny Thomas in 1940.

Author

There are no identification markings on the photo. It may have been the property of Thomas himself and was distributed by him when he tried for bookings and for publicity purposes. The cafe he was performing at may have distributed it to the local newspaper to publicize his engagement at their establishment. The description of this photo is that it was part of a newspaper's photo bank.
