Summary

Description
Change of directions under ETCS Level 2 (with three train units, six European Vital Computers):
  • Step 1: In "Stand-by" mode (SB) the six ETCS on-board computers (EVCs) supervise train stand-still.
  • Step 2: After opening cab A in section 1 and train data has been entered, all other EVCs of the train will switch to "Sleeping" mode (SL). The remaining cabs switch to "Sleeping" (SL) where they will read location balise and other information during the journey ahead.
  • Step 3: After entering valid train data during Start of Mission (SoM), a (GSM-R) connection to the RBC will usually be established, a Movement Authority (MA) might be retrieved.
  • Step 4: With the closing of the leading cab A in section 1, all other EVCs go to SL mode, supervising stand-still (see step 1).
  • Step 5: With the acitivation of cab B in section 3, its EVC switches to SB mode, the others EVCs remain in SL mode (see step 2).
  • Step 6: After selecting ETCS Level 2, usually a connection to the RBC might be established and a, using previous position information (if available), a Movement Authority (MA) might be requested (see step 3).
