DescriptionDick Two Ton Baker Happy Pirates early 1950s.JPG
Photo of Dick "Two Ton" Baker. Baker was an entertainer in the Chicago area for over 40 years, working in radio, early television and as a musician, playing the piano and vocals. Baker's recordings were primarily novelty songs. His career spanned from the 1930s until his death in 1975. During his time on early television, Baker hosted many programs for children. He is shown here as the host of the program "The Happy Pirates" with the puppet, Bubbles the porpoise, who appeared on the program with him. This show ran on WBKB-TV from 1952 to 1956. Baker enjoyed entertaining live audiences and played many engagements in area night clubs and restaurants over the years.
