Description
Cast-iron grilles and bronze panels. Nos. 101-111 High St., Kensington, London (originally Derry and Toms department store). Built 1929-31. Work by Walter Gilbert 1931. Most, if not all, of this work is still extant, and consists of decorative iron grilles and bronze fascia-panels. BRONZE PANELS: 6 panels: this panel: Bears, on the Derry Street frontage at the top of ground level to the right of a canopy. (Each of the "pavilions" has a canopy beneath it). Work arranged by Walter Gilbert and modelled by Donald Gilbert and cast in the foundry of H. H. Martyn of Cheltenham. Photo by Phillip Medhurst. Metalwork 1931.
