File:Den norske kirkes flagg.svg

Summary

Description
The flag of the Church of Norway. It is a banner of the church's arms; consisting of a cross trefly surmounting two axes addorsed, the design is known as Olavsmerket ("the Mark of Saint Olaf"), and has been used in ecclesiastical seals, arms, and marks in Norway since the 16th century. The combination is most commonly interpreted as one of universal (cross) and national (axes) Christian symbols (the latter has also featured in the arms of Norway itself since around 1280).
While Olavsmerket had long been perceived and used as the common emblem of the Church of Norway, it was only on 1990‐09‐28 that it was officially approved as the church's arms and flag, by resolution of the Crown Prince Regent.
