Delivery of U.S. Navy McDonnell F3H-2 Demon fighters. Naval aviator Wally Schirra (second from right) is shaking hands with David. S. Lewis, Jr. (far right), McDonnell design chief. Schirra later became one of the original Mercury 7 astronauts. Dave Lewis went on to become President of McDonnell and CEO of General Dynamics. Schirra and Lewis became close friends, especially during the Mercury program. |
