![Image of Daniel Joseph Sheehan, born in Tralee, Ireland 14 November 1894, was a Second Lieutenant with the Royal Flying Corps, the eldest of three sons of Captain D. D. Sheehan MP. for Mid-Cork, Ireland, who served with him on the Western Front in World War I. Whilst serving with the No. 66 Squadron in France, he died on 10 May 1917, when on an early morning patrolling expedition, a superior body of the German Jagdstaffel 11 aircraft engaged the RFC Sopwith Pups, and Sheehan and another officer were killed. He managed to land the damaged plane near Noyelles, before he died in the cockpit. His superior officer wrote: "he was loved by all and was by nature absolutely devoid of fear". He was buried at the Commonwealth War Graves Commission’s Cabaret Rouge Cemetery (grave plot N16) at Souchez (14 km. north of Arras, sw. of Lille), France. Sheehan is commemorated on a panel of the Parliamentary War Memorial in Westminster Hall, one of MP's sons that died during World War I to be named on that memorial.[1][2] His brother Martin J Sheehan, RAF was killed in October 1918, his uncle Robert O'Connor killed at Passchendaele in July 1917.
