Object history

Patron der Kirche in Fleringen war schon bei der Visitation im Jahre 1570 der Evangelist Lukas (de Lorenzi). Für ihn steht im Schildhaupt das Schreibzeug, der Federkiel. Da er das Evangelium der Ankündigung der Geburt Jesu an die Jungfrau Maria („AVE MARIA“) niederschrieb, ist der Federkiel begleitet von einer goldenen Rose, dem Symbol der Gottesmutter. Die goldene Rose hat indes noch eine zusätzliche Bedeutung: Sie steht zudem als Zeichen der Abtei Oeren/St. Irminen, Trier, die seit dem Jahre 816 Grundherrin von Fleringen war und als Patronin die Mutter Gottes verehrte.

Unter den Paramenten der Kirche Fleringen findet sich eine Kasel, vermutlich im Jahre 1421. Sie zeigt auf dem Mittelstab, unterhalb des Querbalkens, das Ehewappen des Johann Hurt von Schönecken mit Entgin von Brantscheidt. Im von schwarz vor rot gespaltenen Schild vor ein silberner, rot bewehrter Adler, hinten 3 (2:1) silberne Wolfsangeln. Im Gemeindewappen steht der Adler in verwechselter Tinktur.
