Object history
Deutsch: Das neben dem von dem Heiligen Fridolin gegründeten Frauenstift Säckingen entstandene Dorf entwickelte sich im 13. Jahrhundert zur Stadt, die sich unter stiftischer Lehensoberhoheit in österreichischem Besitz befand. In den Siegeln führte die Stadt bis zum 16. Jahrhundert das Bild des Kloster- und Stadtpatrons St. Fridolin als Wanderer mit Stab und Tasche. Es wird auch als „Siechenmännchen" interpretiert, das bei den Säckinger Thermalquellen Heilung sucht. Später taucht zusätzlich der „Säckel" unter dem Heiligen als „redendes" Bild im Siegel auf. Der erste Beleg für das Säckinger Wappen findet sich in einer Basler Chronik von 1580. Nach dem Anfall Säckingens an Baden 1805 wurde der „Säckel" alleiniges Wappenbild. Die Farben wechselten öfter. Die Flagge wurde 1919 eingeführt. Am 1. Juni 1978 erhielt die Stadt das Prädikat „Bad".
