Date:

1523
Notes Due to more developed composition than the version in Metropolitan Museum of Art and technique, also considered as artist's own work. The model for Saint Anne was Dürer's wife, Agnes, studied in a preparatory drawing signed and dated 1519 (today in Albertina, Vienna). According to Bayersdorfer the copy could have been produced as a condition of sale during the transactions that led to Elector of Bavaria Maximilian I's acquisition of the work (1630), although the date (1523) is not questionable.
