Summary

Description

A U.S. Navy Curtiss R5C-1 Commando (BuNo 39611) at the National Museum of Naval Aviation at Pensacola, Florida (USA).

This aircraft was ordered as a USAAF C-46A (s/n 43-47047, c/n 118/CK95) and was accepted by the U.S. Navy on 17 November 1944. It then entered squadron service with Headquarters Squadron (HEDRON) of Marine Air Group 35, where it served until 1946. Subsequently, the aircraft flew with Marine Transport Squadron VMR-253 between June and September 1946. After spending the remainder of 1946 in an aircraft pool, the aircraft underwent overhaul in 1947 and was then placed in aircraft pools, first at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, North Carolina (USA), and then Naval Air Station Columbus, Ohio. Its service ended in 1948. (Text mostly USN)
