Coultershaw beam pump From a different angle on a working day. The fountain is the pump output. This then flows down the slope and actuates an hydraulic ram, thus demonstrating another form of pumping technology (a source of perpetual wonderment to many). The pump is a waterwheel driven three throw pump with the motion passing via long wooden beams. This supplied water to Petworth House
