File:Coronation of a Byzantine co-emperor on a shield, Madrid Skylitzes.jpg

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Original file(1,866 × 1,535 pixels, file size: 2.46 MB, MIME type: image/jpeg)

Summary

Description
Anachronistic depiction of a Byzantine imperial coronation by being raised on a shield and crowned. Usually identified as the coronation of Michael I Rhangabe due to its position in the text of the Madrid Skylitzes, the image probably depicts the coronation of a co-emperor (left) by a senior emperor (right), and may be drawn from an unrelated original source. Vasiliki Tsamakda, The Illustrated Chronicle of Ionnes Skylitzes in Madrid, (Leiden, 2002), pp. 44–45.
