In particular at the south and southwest side the church is surrounded by other buildings that must have been part of a larger complex. At the southwest side on one occasion I saw excavations at work, the man in charge complained about lack of funding.
Strolling through Istanbul, guidebook, speaks of this probably having been the “once-famous Hospice of Samson” |
