The Change up got its name from throwing a much slower pitch to deceive and often making batters off balance and to swing before the ball has crossed the plate. The change up has many different grips and depending on how the pitcher grips the change up correlates to if the ball has break in the pitch.( Movement other than the speed and velocity the pitcher has thrown. Break in a pitch is when the ball moves from the spin of the ball.) To grip a change up, take the middle and ring fingers, and lay them in the open space of the baseball while leaving both index and pinky fingers to be even on each side of the ball. Then take your thumb and touch the tip of your index finger, creating a circle or an oval with the two. Keep a loose grip and it is very important to throw through the catcher and throwing it the same arm speed as you would with a fastball for the most deception.
