Summary

Description
The museum’s B-29 belonged to the Navy for most of its service career and never saw combat. It was delivered to the Army Air Force as serial number 44-62022. The aircraft spent the latter days of its career on the target range at NAS China Lake, California, from 1960 to 1975. It was delivered to the museum in 1975. The B-29 at the museum is painted to resemble a B-29 that saw combat service during the Second World War with the 482nd Bombardment Squadron of the 505th Bombardment Group, 20th Air Force. The original “Peachy” flew 35 combat missions over Japan, flying from Tinian and the Marianas. For many of those missions, Peachy was originally flown by Pueblo native and Distinguished Service Cross recipient, Captain Robert T. Haver. Peachy was lost, along with her entire crew, over Tokyo during a nighttime incendiary bombing raid on 25 May 1945. Captain Haver and her original crew were not onboard.
