Captured Messerschmitt Bf 109F, given South African Air Force markings and serial 'KJ-?', on the airfield at Martuba No.4 Landing Ground in North Africa, January 1943. "Operated" by No. 4 Squadron, SAAF. No. 4 Squadron had this ‘pet’ Me 109F from Jagdgeschwader 53. Capt. "Rosie" du Toit (Squadron Leader with rank of Temporary Major) made the first flight of 4 Sqn’s pet Bf109F (ex JG.53) on 6th January 1943 - and while landing manged to escape unharmed when he burst the tyres! Note tail of B-24 Liberator on right.
