File:Auction of Souls (1919) - Ad 8.jpg

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Original file(1,042 × 723 pixels, file size: 172 KB, MIME type: image/jpeg)

Summary

Description
Ad for the American film Auction of Souls (1919) aka Ravished Armenia, on pages 1296 and 1297 of the May 31, 1919 Moving Picture World. The ad shows the scene with the crucifixion of nude Armenian girls. The per-seat price in the ad refers to the initial showings of the film in New York and other major cities where a $10 admission was charged to raise funds for Armenian relief. When the film was issued for general release later that year, many theater ads compared their admission price with the $10 paid for these initial showings of the film.
