Description Secretary of Defense Ash Carter leaves the United States Ambassador's Residence after a formal breakfast with Ambassador Caroline Kennedy in Tokyo, Japan April 9, 2015. Carter is making the first U.S. Defense Secretary visit to Japan since the snap elections in late December that saw the re-election of the Liberal Democratic Party. Carter is on a visit to the U.S. Pacific Command Area of Responsibility to make observations for the future force and the rebalance to the Pacific.
