File:Argiope appensa spider Nawiliwili.jpg

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Description
Patrick Arnold, My Camera is the source. This is a picture of an Argiope appensa spider, as far as I can tell at least, which I found in the jungle in Nawiliwili, Hawaii on the island of Kauai. You have an article on this spider but this picture may help in further identification. I tried trailblazing up a mountain but ran into hundreds of these spiders all about 2 - 3 inches from tip to tip. After climbing through several I figured this was their home not mine. I turned back not knowing what type of spiders they were, or if the were venomous. After some research it appears these are also called garden spiders and are not venomous. I suppose I should have continued trailblazing, open toed sandals also helped to discourage me I suppose.
