DescriptionApril 2008 uprisings in Mahalla, Egypt.JPG
People take to the streets on April 7, 2008, in Mahalla, Egypt. In the days following the planned strike on April 6 that was shut down by government force, a series of uprisings and military reprisals turned the city of Mahalla, about two hours north of Cairo, into a conflict zone. Rising food prices fueled the unrest. The 6 April Movement was formed in the wake of the uprisings which fed revolutionary sentiment and helped lead to the 2011 revolution.
