The copyright in an individual photograph lasts for 70 years from the end of the calendar year in which the author died. This photograph was taken in 1880, 140 years ago. It shows the Swiss geodetic commission measuring a baseline with Ibáñez apparatus. Carlos Ibáñez e Ibáñez de Ibero had devised this instrument, which was constructed in Paris by Léon and Émile Brunner.
