Girodet supported the educational ideas of philosopher Jean-Jacques Rousseau. In this sensitive portrait, the son of the artist’s patron Doctor Trioson has stopped his cruel games with insects and abandoned his Latin grammar, expressing his boredom in the traditional pose of melancholy.
