Summary

Description
The Murugan (Kartikeya, Skanda) Ladan temple is a rock-cut Hindu monument likely built between 6th and 7th-century. An inscription found here states that the temple was renovated in the 8th-century. The rock-cut temple is simple, with an ardha-mandapa and a square garbha-ghriya (sanctum). In the mandapa are several reliefs including the icons related to Murugan. In the sanctum are seated Murugan and his wife Devasena (above). Yanai Mala (Elephant Hill) is a sitting elephant-shaped granite hill with boulders near northeastern Madurai. It contains several historic Hindu and Jain temples and rock reliefs from the 6th to 12th-century, with inscriptions that likely predate these monuments. It is a protected monument and a tourist attraction in Tamil Nadu, India.
