File:8th Air Force psychological warfare leaflet.jpg

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Original file(1,220 × 782 pixels, file size: 941 KB, MIME type: image/jpeg)

Summary

Description
A leaflet meant to be dropped onto a German city. This is an example of psychological warfare on the part of the 8th Air Force. Translation:

On February 18, 1943, a few weeks after the catastrophe of Stalingrad, Dr. Goebbels posed a mass gathering in Berlin's Sportpalast the question:

"DO YOU WANT TOTAL WAR?"

An enthusiastic "yes" was the Nazi gathering's answer. Today Germany knows what "total war" means, better than Goebbels and his yes-shouters in the Sportpalast foresaw. The total war that the Nazis wanted will be continued with ever severer force and effect until Germany capitulates unconditionally.

THE GERMAN PEOPLE MUST CHOOSE FOR THEMSELVES:

EITHER continuation of the total Nazi war until German manpower and industry is completely destroyed — OR: see back

The word weiss is a typographical error because the American printing presses lack the correct German letter ß.

Transcript

Am 18. Februar 1943, wenige Wochen nach der Katastrophe
von Stalingrad, richtete Dr. Goebbels an eine
Massenversammlung im Berliner Sportpalast die Frage:

„Wollt ihr den totalen Krieg?“

Ein begeistertes „Ja“ war die Antwort der
Nazi-Versammlung. Heute weiss Deutschland,
was „totaler Krieg“ bedeutet, besser als es
Dr. Goebbels und seine Ja-Schreier im Sportpalast
voraussahen. Der totale Krieg, den die
Nazis wollten, wird mit immer stärkerer
Wucht und Wirkung fortgeführt werden, bis
Deutschland bedingungslos kapituliert.

DAS DEUTSCHE VOLK MUSS SELBST WÄHLEN:
ENTWEDER Fortsetzung des totalen Nazi-Kriegs bis zur
völligen Vernichtung der deutschen Arbeitskraft und Industrie – ODER:
