Description

The Cortina got a new coke bottle shape in 1971, the Mk III, the 3rd generation. Not only built in England but in Australia too. In Australia the first of the Mk IIIs was known as the TC, with downward sloping dash and round headlights, the TC was built from 1971-73, In England it was available in L, XL, GT and GXL with 4 cyl engines. The Australian cars were available in L, XL and XLE, the single headlight cars gettting either 1600 or 2000 4 cyl and the twin headlight cars got the 200 or 250 cu in 6 cyl Falcon engines. Also available in South Africa with the Essex 2.5 and 3.0 V6

The later Mk III Cortina, the TD, from 1974 got a plastic grille, still round headlights, and the new flat dash. From 1976, all Australian Cortinas had rectangular headlights
