Summary

Description

A postcard sent from Nellie Mildred "Helen" Claxton to Edgar "Ted" Claxton when they were courting, written on the back in their private cipher. Showing Portsmouth Harbour, England, and King Edward VII Yacht at the Jetty.

The steamship is Royal Yacht HMY Victoria and Albert III/King Edward VII. Edward inherited this ship from his mother, and it was renamed for him, and probably modernised. His better-known yacht was a smaller racing vessel – a different yacht altogether.
