Title
Warehouses etc at the end of the Tunnel towards Wapping
Description
English: The original goods-handling facilities of the Liverpool and Manchester Railway at the end of the Wapping Tunnel towards the dockside (later the Wapping Dock) in Liverpool.
The sidings stretched back about 200 yards from the tunnel mouth towards the dock, with warehouses on both sides where goods could be loaded down from above onto the wagons. The facility remained in use, later renamed the Park Lane goods station, with various reconstructions, until 1972. Traffic through the tunnel continued to be cable-drawn to Edge Hill until 1896. The site has now been demolished and redeveloped; all that remains is the partially bricked-up tunnel portal at Kings Dock Road.
