Description

César Daly undertakes the restoration of the cathedral in 1845 and resigns, his mission accomplished in 1877. The waterproofing of the roof threatens the paintings of the vault. He supervises the restoration of the roof and modifies it. The tiled roofs overhanging the walls as on many buildings are shortened, the walls are raised by seven meters and have a cornice decorated with a vault. They hide the roof from the sight of visitors. The circular buttresses are provided with pinnacles, but protests from the inhabitants lead to their dismantling with the exception of three of them.

This place is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, listed as Cité épiscopale d'Albi.

This building is classé au titre des monuments historiques de la France. It is indexed in the base Mérimée, a database of architectural heritage maintained by the French Ministry of Culture, under the reference PA00095453
