I mean, alternative, indy, I mean they all are just open-ended and really ambiguous and cryptic at this point so I don't really know if they mean anything. I mean, they're just punk rock clichés, corporate rock clichés at this point. SHAWN FOREE: We need the right corporate scumbag to call us like grunge or something. BEN: Gut-runge. SHAWN: Right. Gut-runge. ANDY NORMAN: When you think about what Digital Leather sounds like, you think driving bass, frenetic drums and Shawn Foree's vocals which are oddly dark but also kind of sweet. As Shawn Foree said when he came out here, it's gonna get weird. You know, it's like, not discrediting Denver but it's like why would you not stop, like, here on your way. TODD FINK: Bands drive through. BASS GUY: Yeah, they just drive through & it's just a very overlooked city, which kind of makes it more diamond in the rough, you know. It does have a lot of, it's got a great music scene, awesome people, excellent venues, etc so... TODD: I think in the last five years maybe, definitely in the last 10 years Omaha has been put on the map in the music scene, in the music community, in the touring agencies and all that stuff. Whereas it really was a skippable place before. Now it's like, well, it's got a decent location, no cities nearby if you're going West from Chicago or you know, there's a lot of routes that it fits on and I think there's a lot of nice venues here now that can support touring bands at pretty much any level, which is cool. And, uh, I'm a big fan of other people who need that so it made sense for me. SHAWN: It's not like I was trained to be a musician, like from day one. TODD: No, me neither. SHAWN: I just kind of fell into it because that's what I liked. TODD: Cause everybody likes music. BEN: You don't pick it and it doesn't pick you. You know, big shows, small shows, basement shows, um, large venues, um, and they recently played Nebraska's biggest rock show, MAHA Music Festival. TODD: Good gig to get. BASS GUY: Yeah, it was a hell of a lineup. It was a lot of excellent - - I mean the sound was really great. ♪ MUSIC ♪ BASS GUY: There were a lot of people there and I think it was good for the city to have something and people keep supporting. You know, pretty cool for Omaha to like have something. TODD: It's amazing to have, I think it's amazing to have a festival that's a real festival in Omaha, Nebraska. I mean, the lineup is legit. I mean, it's run well. There are great food sponsors. SHAWN: There's lots of beer. TODD: There's lots of beer. I think it's amazing. It's just that sometimes it calls for it and it feels pretty damned good. TODD: You need it a certain volume to have power behind it and uh, then you need what you're playing to be a little bit louder than everyone elses so you can tell what you're doing.
