Club career

Early career

Born in Macaé, Rio de Janeiro, Diego began his senior career with Barcelona-RJ in 2017. He joined Resende for the 2018 season,[1] but after featuring rarely, he was loaned to Friburguense in April of that year.[2]

Back to Resende, Diego again featured sparingly and moved on loan to Série D side Portuguesa-RJ on 13 April 2019.[3] In July, he returned to Friburguense, also in a temporary deal.[4]

On 13 July 2020, after playing in the 2020 Campeonato Carioca for Resende, Diego signed a permanent contract with Boa Esporte.[5]

Goiás

On 12 May 2021, Diego agreed to a deal with Goiás in the Série B.[6] He made his debut for the club on 1 June, starting in a 0–0 away draw against Sampaio Corrêa.

On 2 December 2021, after achieving promotion to the Série A as a starter, Diego renewed his contract until the end of 2023.[7] He made his top tier debut on 10 April 2022, starting in a 3–0 away loss against Coritiba.

Diego scored his first goal in the main category of Brazilian football on 11 September 2022, netting the opener in a 1–1 home draw against Flamengo.[8] On 27 October, he further extended his link until 2024.[9]

Diego started the 2023 season sidelined, nursing a knee injury.[10]
