Deewani (transl. Crazy lover)[1] is an Indian Hindi-language drama television series that airs on Dangal under the banner of Shakuntalam Telefilms and stars Aditi Sanwal, Nitin Goswami[2] and Sehrish Ali.[3][4] It premiered on 18 March 2024.[5]

Plot

Cheerful, beautiful Meera lives with her family in Uttar Pradesh and she believes in love. Parth, a ruffian and the youngest son of the famous businessman Madan Thakur, whose Meera's father, Sanjeev works at his company and he lives with his family and he hates his father due to a misunderstanding and he is in love with Payal. Meera and Parth meet when he had saved her from an accident. Meera's overprotective mother, Chhaya, who always believes in villagers' rumours doesn't like Parth and she asks her daughter to avoid him as she believes that Parth will ruin her daughter.

Parth and Meera becomes friends, breaking her mother's rules. Meanwhile, Meera learns that Payal had an illicit affair with a man named Tarun and she confronts Payal about this but she taunts her. At the celebration at Parth's house, Meera spots Payal again and she tries to confront her again but she and her friends lock her in their family's bakery where Parth is and he misunderstands her and confronts Meera. Where Meera confesses Payal's truth to Parth to his surprise, but the entire family except Meera's parents blames Parth and Meera as Chhaya blames Parth because she believes Parth had kidnapped her. Then they confine Meera, but she escapes. After learning about Payal's truth, Parth goes to her house during the holi celebration where Parth chases Payal and he confronts her. Payal calls him a ruffian and reveals how she used him by loving Tarun as she doesn't love him. Due to their altercation, Parth's brother, Garv accidentally pushes Payal, killing her. To save the family and avoid Garv's arrest, Parth takes the blame and is sentenced to seven years imprisonment. Meera is surprised to hear this as she believes that Parth is innocent and she tries to meet him, but her parents prevent this. Parth and they emotionally blackmails Meera. She promises to prove Parth's innocence to everyone.

7 years later

Parth is now released from jail after seven years and now he hates love due to the incident, whereas Meera returns to her family after completing her education. Parth and Meera finally meet again, Meera proposes Parth but he rejects her due to his keen hatred of love and he asked her to stay away from him. Garv falls for Meera and he plans to marry her Parth's family and Meera's family accept this, unaware of the truth.

Parth's grandmother learns about Meera's love towards on Parth and she tries to make him to marry Meera but fails. Parth's mother, Sheela, also learns about this and she asks him to stay away from her. Meera asks Parth to spend time with him, but their antics are recorded by Parth's malicious aunt, Manju, and she exposes Parth and Meera's relationship truth to the family on the day of Garv and Meera's wedding which leads into a fight between Garv and Parth but Meera blames the entire family for this incident and she tries to leave them but she is stopped by grandmother and is then hospitalised for a panic attack.

Parth's grandmother asks both Meera and Parth to marry to save the family, to which they agree and they do marry. But Meera's family learns of this and blames them for ruining the family, leading Chhaya to disown her by declaring her dead. This shocks Parth's family, as they blame Meera as Sheela starts to hate her and she doesn't accept Meera as her daughter-in-law but some family members including Madan, Pragya and her husband Nachiket and their grandmother support her while some family members including Sheela, Manju, Sahil, Garv and Madan's brother dislike her.

Garv seeks vengeance on Parth and Meera for his insult, whereas Manju planned to expel Meera from Parth's life where she turns Sheela against Meera and creates problems for her. Parth and Meera become friends, whereas Manju's son Sahil falls for Meera's sister, Smriti.

Payal's twin sister, Priyal, seeks vengeance on Parth for her sister's death and she poses as Payal. Parth tries to divorce Meera to marry Payal/Priyal but she opposes their divorce.

Production

Development and Casting

The series was announced by Shakuntalam Telefilms July 2023 and was confirmed in February 2024 by Dangal. Initially, Sonal Vengurlekar and Saumya Saraswat[9] were in talks to play the female negative lead, but they later backed out due to unspecified reasons. In August 2023, Nitin Goswami, Sanchita Ugale, Jyothi Mukherjee[10] and Veronica Talreja[11] joined the cast.[12] Many of them later backed out due to late production development. In January 2024, Aditi Sanwal, Nitin Goswami and Sehrish Ali were signed as the leads.[11]

Release

The first promo was released on 28 February 2024 featuring Aditi Sanwal, Nitin Goswami and Sehrish Ali.[3] It was Launched on 18 March 2024.[13] It replaced the television series Sasumaa Ne Meri Kadar Na Jaani.
