A partial lunar eclipse took place on Monday, December 10, 1973, the last of four lunar eclipses in 1973, the first was a penumbral lunar eclipse on January 18, the second was a penumbral lunar eclipse on June 15, and the third was a penumbral lunar eclipse on July 15.[1] It occurred near perigee, and as described, such event was known as a supermoon.

Half-Saros cycle

A lunar eclipse will be preceded and followed by solar eclipses by 9 years and 5.5 days (a half saros).[2] This lunar eclipse is related to two partial solar eclipses of Solar Saros 122.
