My most profound experience with the dance community in OSU, is just the sense of belonging they kind of bring about. It's really changed the way that I kind of view life now, and it's made my college experience definitely much better. I think the way a lot of people get started in the dance scene is they take a class at OSU, one of the PAC classes. They take one class or multiple ones and they find which one they like a lot, and then kind of pursue that. OSU is an awesome place to do country dance--to do all sorts of dancing. Your career shouldn't be everything about your life. I think that's the exciting part about being in college, is that you can do anything, you just have to decide what you're gonna do and where you're going to invest your time. We have all sorts of ages, all grades, different ethnic backgrounds, people from different cities. You know, you might be walking down campus way, but you don't know who's a dancer, because you just haven't sessioned with them yet. Kinda haven't really seen who they are. And so, just being involved in dancing here at OSU, has just opened my eyes. We have girls--and boys, actually, on our team, and some are involved in country line dancing, some are involved in ballroom dancing. Balancing being a student and the captain of this team is definitely difficult. Sometimes I'm sitting in class and I'm drawing out dance formations. But I balance it by always remembering that I have to put my studies first, and then play after. It's just kinda that hour of: I get to enjoy myself, I'm here with like, peers, and I don't have anywhere else I have to be, because I'm supposed to be here. [laughs] It's such a creative outlet for me. Dancing here has given me great insight about how personalities are expressed, just through even a simple body movement. It's just a really great way to build friendships and build connections, and be involved in a really fun and energetic and positive way in the community, and just give something back in a way that feels good to you.
