History

At the end of 2011, the launch of Discovery MAX, a television channel on documentaries and factuals owned by Discovery Networks, was announced. The new channel replaced Veo TV on digital terrestrial television.[1] Discovery MAX began broadcasting on January 12, 2012.[2]

Discovery MAX underwent its first transformation on September 12, 2016, when it was renamed DMAX as the channel added series and movies to its programming.[3] As of the same date, DMAX began to target the male audience due to the launch of DKISS, a channel owned by Grupo Radio Blanca but fed with Discovery programming, however, DKISS is aimed at a female audience.[4]

In 2017, the channel began broadcasting sports after obtaining the rights to broadcast the Australian Open,[5] later expanding its offer with the rights to broadcast the Roland–Garros Open.[6]

In 2018 the channel obtained the rights to broadcast the Winter Olympics in conjunction with Eurosport,[7] a situation that was repeated for the 2022 edition,[8] In this way, DMAX took the place of broadcasting this sporting event in Spain, which had historically been broadcast by TVE.

Programs

DMAX shows survival, kitchen, motor, wild world and crime investigation programmes, and similar, addressing mainly a young male audience.
