  • SASI para-cyclists prepare for World Track Championships

Transcription

[track noises] [encouragement, track sounds] "So this is the ah... the final prepartion ah... before the, the Paris Cycling Track World Championships in Mexico. From the SASI cycling we have Jason Niblett who is piloting Kieran Modra; ah... and we have Holly Takos who is piloting Felicity Johnson; and Breanna Hargraves who is also piloting Brandie O'Connor from the ACT. The VI, or the visual impaired athlete at the back is guided and piloted by the rider at the front that can actually see the track and ah... and pilot the vehicle around the track and the synergy between the two is very, very important for the ah... bike to perform at its best. What you're seeing today is ah... basically the last hitout before the 'power on' on Friday; just short and sharp efforts; just to freshen the body up and ah... put a bit of speed back into the legs. [timer 'beep' and "keep it going!"encouraging comment] Mexico's track is around ah... 1800 to 2000 metres high so it is quite high with the air pressure and ah... and the oxygen level so ahmm, actually racing altitude is very different to racing at sea level. The athletes need to be feeling good and need to be in a healthy state to handle the altitude as well as the training load. Mexico, it's quite important to the athletes; it's, it forms part of the Commonwealth Games selection so the times that are done ahm... in Mexico will stand for selection for the Commonwealth Games in July. [encourgement as riders go passed] Hopefully all SASI tandems ah... will hopefully make the Commonwealth Games Team and that'll be really, really good performance for SASI cycling."
