The Cumberland Valley School District is a large, rural and suburban public school district located in Central Pennsylvania. It covers Hampden Township, Monroe Township, Middlesex Township and Silver Spring Township in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania. According to 2000 federal census data, it served a resident population of 46,926. By 2010, the district's population increased to 54,670 people.[1] In 2009, the district residents’ per capita income was $28,440, while the median family income was $66,515.[2] In the Commonwealth, the median family income was $49,501[3] and the United States median family income was $49,445, in 2010.[4] By 2013, the median household income in the United States rose to $52,100.[5]

The district is served by the Capital Area Intermediate Unit 15, which offers a variety of services, including a completely developed K-12 curriculum that is mapped and aligned with the Pennsylvania Academic Standards (available online), shared services, a group purchasing program and a wide variety of special education and special needs services.

As of April 18th, 2024 this school board unanimously voted to cancel Maulik Pancholy appearance to read his book [1]"The Best At It" to students at Mountain View Middle School. The book is about anti-bullying, inclusion, and identity. It is based on a gay character. The school board chose to reduce the book to a single aspect.

The faculty at Mountain View Middle School condemned the boards decision stating in part "As a public school, it is our responsibility to serve the entire community. No one should be made to feel that who they are is less than anyone else.". Many are asking the board to reconsider or resign immediately.
