Voiceover (Male): The Environmental Learning Centre here at Christies Beach High School has a focus on sustainability. There were sustainable building practices used in constructing the building, rammed earth and straw bale was used in the production and it also has some renewable energy resources to heat and cool the building. The Environmental Learning Centre had its roof designed to take a photovoltaic system. The building doesn't use a lot of energy to run, but we have a large 13 kilowatt photovoltaic system to run the building and that produces enough energy to run four of these environmental learning centres. Sometimes sustainability is a hard concept for the students to grasp, but they can come down here, they can feel the straw bale, they can feel the rammed earth and get a good idea of what sustainability means. Voiceover (Male 2): I love teaching at Christies Beach High School cause I get to work with some amazing kids and staff and get the opportunity to do all sorts of really good environmental projects. Voiceover (Young Female): Christies Beach High School is renowned for its environmental learning programs. Voiceover (Young Female 2): I really enjoy being involved and educating younger people in our school about the surroundings and the environment. Voiceover (Young Female 3): The Environmental Learning Centre is my favourite part of the school. Because we are lucky enough to have this building on the same campus as school so it gives us more time and opportunities to work with and learn more about the environment. Voiceover (Male 2): The students can actually see that there are alternative to fossil fuels, you can generate power and reduce the environmental impact. Voiceover (Male): The centre here is a very unique place and the students love coming here. They often comment that they would like to live here. They comment on how comfortable the temperature is in the building and they love that use of natural materials and the surroundings. The National Solar Schools funding has enabled us to get a large PV array to complete the building and complete the dream.
