Centennial Collegiate Vocational Institute is a secondary high school located in ward five of Guelph, Ontario, Canada. Centennial offers many programs including science, math, business, English, French, and biotechnology. The school colours are purple and gold. ♫♪ MUSIC ♪♫ Nicola Di Pietro - Student: I visited the campus before applying and I liked it very much and I like the program and everything related with food and nutrition is my passion, so I felt like at home here. Camilla DeHoscha - Student: It is a program that talks about biology, chemistry, nutrition engineering. And it is also about one thing that is important to everyone that is food. I like to understand how things work in the human body and how can we improve and optimize its mechanism through nutrition. Steve Boloudakis - Faculty: The Food Science Technology program is a three-year Advanced Diploma and there's a two-year fast tracked option for students that have a university or college background in the related field. I learned how to develop and process the food with quality to insure safety to it, and also I learn how to be a good manager. One of the positions in the food industry that is called quality insurance manger. So, we need to make sure that the product is with high quality and it is safe for the people to eat so we need to know how to deal with people. There's courses in food analysis, food product development, food regulations there's project courses as well quality assurance, plant sanitation. It's important to learn the entire process so they understand the science behind food being developed, the field, the quality measures that are taking in the production of food and also the procedures that are required within the processing of a food product and sure that it's of high quality, that its original, unique. Different types of food parts can be developed at the processing stages as well, so they really learn the full gamete of information regarding food and the science behind it. ♫♪ MUSIC ♪♫
History
The school is located in the North East side of the city of Guelph, Ontario, Canada. Centennial was opened in 1967, 100 years after Canadian Confederation, as indicated by its name and is operated by the Upper Grand District School Board. The high school was ranked 3rd of 719 in the Fraser Institute Report Card on Ontario Secondary School's 2007 Edition.[2] As of 2023, Centennial is ranked 35th out of 739 high schools in Ontario in the Fraser report.
Some former Centennial students have gone on to become successful in their careers. One example of this is Victor Davis, who was a successful Canadian swimmer, and Olympic Medalist.
