The district encompasses a section of southwestern Los Angeles County. The district is primarily urban.

Other levels of government

The 61st Assembly district is completely contained within the  35th Senate District, represented by Democrat Steven Bradford.[2]

In the United States House of Representatives, the 61st Assembly district is part of the California's  43rd congressional district, represented by Democrat Maxine Waters.[3]
