Burundi has an embassy in Rabat.[1] Morocco has an embassy in Bujumbura. Both countries are members of the African Union.
History
In 2018, Morocco voted against creating a commission of inquiry on Burundi at the United Nations.[2]
In 2022, Morocco's Minister of Foreign Affairs Nasser Bourita received Burundi's Foreign Minister Albert Shingiro, who was on a six-day working visit to the North African country. The FMs discussed their countries’ deep and growing bilateral ties and expressed their mutual desire to strengthen cooperation.[3]
In a joint statement, the two countries reaffirmed their commitment to “develop, intensify and diversify their cooperation in several areas.” Meanwhile, Bourita vowed to share Morocco's “know-how and expertise in socio-economic, human, and cultural development” with the fellow African country.[4]
The pair expressed their willingness to establish an “ambitious and fruitful” cooperation in key sectors, including agriculture, energy, vocational training, health, finance, and mining, the source noted.[5]
Burundi recognized the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic until 2010.[6][7] Since then, Burundi has supported Morocco's territorial integrity.[8]
