My name's Anton Blair and that's me. I live in Sneinton in Nottingham, East Midlands. I go to Greenwood Dale School which is at the top of the hill. I live at the bottom of the hill. I live with my grandma and we're in my grandma's house now. My family is humungous. This is a photo of my mum, the best mum in the world. There's quite a few cousins there, too many to name. And there's me, Anton Blair with the hair. This is my friend, Leighton Mitchell. We used to do anti-drug performances, rapping about that. My passion now is in music. I love music. I'm currently doing A-levels. I'm in my second year doing biology, drama, ICT and media. I used to pass the Open University on the bus but I thought it was a proper university. I wasn't aware that they did short courses that you do at home. So when I heard about the Study Mammals course, I was straightaway interested because I wanted to do something aside from my studies anyway. Hello, everybody. Thanks for coming along and for applying to do the Open University course. What we're going to do today is find out a bit from people who've done it before just what's involved. I did a short course at the Open University, the Study of Mammals. We've also got a few DVDs as well. If you ever watched the Study of Mammals course on TV, these are all the episodes that came with it. I did enjoy doing this short course. I do like David Attenborough's work. Leighton did something totally different. I did Maths For Science. This course was more based around the internet. You did your final exam on the internet. The main skill it gave me was getting used to learning independently which is a skill you need in life especially when you want to go to university. That gave me a bit of a boost on my UCAS form because they actually know that I've already learned independently and I'm capable of doing it by myself. Hopefully, if I get the grades at the end of it all for my A-levels, I can take my year out, have a break or relax, and then go on to university where I can study music technology and innovation. It's a win-win situation. I'd say it's a great course to do. - Just go and see them. - Sets you up for university. - It's interesting. - It's fun. And you get a lot of support from everyone around you. It's easy to do.
