Agazzano Castle

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Castello or Rocca di Agazzano is a combination fortress and rural palace located in Agazzano in the Province of Piacenza, Region of Emilia-Romagna, Italy.

History

The castle putatively was initially built by the Scotti family in the 13th century, which for some time was led by Alberto Scotti, who became Lord of Piacenza and played a role in Milanese politics by evicting for a time the Visconti rulers of the latter town. The first major refurbishment of the castle took place in 1475. In the 18th century, and adjacent palace or villa was built. When Ranuccio Scotti died in 1741, the property passed on to a daughter, married to a member of the Anguissola family, who still owns the property.

Current use

The structures and gardens are available for cultural and private events.[1]
