Aftar (Persian: افتر)[3] is a village in, and the capital of, Hafdar Rural District[4] of Hafdar District, Sorkheh County, Semnan province, Iran.

At the 2006 National Census, its population was 914 in 220 households, when it was in the former Sorkheh District of Semnan County.[5] The following census in 2011 counted 734 people in 218 households.[6] The latest census in 2016 showed a population of 1,222 people in 410 households,[2] by which time the district had been separated from the county in the establishment of Sorkheh County.[7]

After the census, the rural district was separated from the Central District in the establishment of Hafdar District, which was divided into two rural districts.[7]
