Overview

ActiveCampaign was founded by Jason VandeBoom in 2003.[8] It started as a consulting firm, and then as an on-premises software provider.[9] The company would later transition from on-premises software to a software as a service business focused on marketing and sales automation.[8][10] ActiveCampaign raised $20 million from Silversmith Capital Partners in 2016.[11] In February 2020 it raised $100 million in a Series B round led by Susquehanna Growth Equity, joined by Silversmith.[12][13] In April, it raised $240 million in a Series C round led by Tiger Global with participation from Dragoneer, Susquehanna Growth Equity and Silversmith Capital Partners.[14] ActiveCampaign acquired Postmark, a transactional email delivery system, along with Postmark’s platforms, DMARC Digests and Postmark Labs in May 2022.[15][16]

ActiveCampaign is headquartered in Chicago with offices in Indianapolis,[17] Sydney, Australia,[18] Dublin, Ireland.[12][13] Florianopolis, Brazil, and Costa Rica.[19]

Software and services

ActiveCampaign provides cloud-based marketing and sales automation software with features for email marketing, lead scoring and web analytics, a CRM platform, and a live chat messaging platform called Conversations.[8][11][20][21] In 2023, it introduced generative AI capabilities.[22] ActiveCampaign integrates with over 900 applications,[23] including Salesforce, WordPress, Shopify, PayPal, Stripe, Gmail, Facebook, and WooCommerce.[14][13][24][25]

ActiveCampaign is a unicorn company, as it is a privately-held startup valued at over $1 billion.[14][26]

It has appeared on Crain's Chicago Business 2018, 2019, and 2021 best places to work lists,[27][28][29] Inc.com's 2018 list of the best workplaces,[30] Chicago Tribune's 2018 list of top midsize workplaces.[31] Quartz also named ActiveCampaign as a top workplace for remote employees in 2021 and 2022.[32][33]

Acquisitions

  • In May 2022, ActiveCampaign acquired both Postmark and DMARC Digests.[34]
  • In October 2023, ActiveCampaign acquired Onesend.[35]
