The 7th International Emmy Awards took place on November 19, 1979, at the Sheraton Hotel in New York City, United States.[1]

Rich Little's Christmas Carol, produced by CBC won International Emmy Awards in the popular arts category, one of two new ones added this year to the 7th Annual International Emmy Awards.

Four Canadian productions were among the 12 finalist in the competition sponsored by the International Council of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. The other three awards went to British TV productions.

More than 600 guests from the International television broadcast community attended the ceremony at the Sheraton Hotel. They were selected from a record number of 79 entries from 14 countries.
