2022 California elections

The 2022 California elections will take place on November 8, 2022. The Statewide Direct Primary Election will be held on June 7, 2022.[1]

California voters will elect all of California's seats to the United States House of Representatives, one seat to the United States Senate, all of the seats of the California State Assembly, all even-numbered seats of the California State Senate, and the Governor of California and various statewide offices.

United States Congress

Senate

Incumbent Democratic senator Alex Padilla was appointed to the seat in 2021 after his predecessor Kamala Harris resigned to become Vice President of the United States. He intends to run for election to a full term.[2]

House of Representatives

There are approximately 53 seats in the United States House of Representatives in California which will be up for election. The exact number of seats California is apportioned in the United States House of Representatives will be determined by the results of the 2020 United States Census.

Statewide constitutional offices

Governor

Incumbent Democratic governor Gavin Newsom is eligible to run for re-election, though has not stated whether he will do so.

Lieutenant Governor

Incumbent Democratic lieutenant governor Eleni Kounalakis is eligible to run for re-election, though has not stated whether she will do so.

Attorney General

Incumbent Democratic Attorney General Xavier Becerra was nominated to become U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services for the Biden administration. He was confirmed by the Senate, and resigned on March 19, 2021, with Rob Bonta chosen to be his successor by the governor.

Secretary of State

Incumbent Democratic Secretary of State Shirley Weber was appointed in 2021 after her predecessor Alex Padilla resigned to become a U.S. Senator. She intends to run for election to a full term.[2]

Treasurer

Incumbent Democratic Treasurer Fiona Ma is eligible to run for re-election, though has not stated whether she will do so.

Controller

Incumbent Democratic Controller Betty Yee is term-limited and cannot run for re-election.

Insurance Commissioner

Incumbent Democratic Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara is eligible to run for re-election, though has not stated whether he will do so.

Superintendent of Public Instruction

Incumbent Democratic Superintendent Tony Thurmond is eligible to run for re-election, though has not stated whether he will do so.

Board of Equalization

All four seats on the California State Board of Equalization are up for election, with all four incumbents eligible for re-election.

State Legislature

State Senate

Californians will elect all even-numbered seats to the California State Senate.

State Assembly

Californians will elect all of the seats to the California State Assembly.
