The 1946 NCAA Cross Country Championships were the eighth annual cross country meet to determine the team and individual national champions of men's collegiate cross country running in the United States.
Since the current multi-division format for NCAA championship did not begin until 1973, all NCAA members were eligible. In total, 28 teams contested this championship.[1]
The meet was hosted by Michigan State College at the Forest Akers East Golf Course in East Lansing, Michigan for the eighth consecutive time. Additionally, the distance for the race was 4 miles (6.4 kilometers).
The team national championship was retained again by the Drake Bulldogs, their third overall. The individual championship was won by Quentin Brelsford, from Ohio Wesleyan, with a time of 20:22.9.[2]

Be a Lyon: Athletics at Mount Holyoke College Student: The culture of the squash team is just so exciting all the time. Like, we work really hard and are always there for one another. We're just like a family. Student: Besides playing basketball, something that I love to do, I think one of the best parts and something that I wouldn't trade for anything, is the relationships we build with people. Coach: Who do we row for? Students: MHC! Coach: Who do we row for? Students: MHC! Student: The friendships you'll make on the team are some of the closest and strongest you have at Mount Holyoke. Second of all, I think being a swimmer made me a better student. Student: The skills that we have to learn to get us through a race are the same things that we have to use to get through the end of the semester or the end of a test. In the spring, we're competing just about every weekend, and so it really forces me to manage my time in a way that's really productive. Student: It's a great place to study. I would say, like, I'm having the best classroom experience. Student: I think that the facilities are incredible, and the instruction is incredible, and just, like, the resources that we have to use-not only the amazing school horses but just the trainers. There's really nothing that this barn is missing. Director of Athletics Laurie Priest: You have the best coaches, who are dedicated to your success in the classroom as well as on the playing field. They challenge you. Our coaches are educators, and they provide opportunities for our students to develop and grow. Student: I definitely am not the type of person that can sit and do homework for six hours straight. So it's really nice to be able to go to practice, work out for a little bit, see my teammates and coaches, and then go back. And I feel even more energized after I practice. I can get even more work done. Priest: You also get to compete in venues and facilities that are some of the top facilities in the nation. We're proud to say that The Orchards golf course is noted as one of the top ten collegiate facilities in the nation. Mount Holyoke boasts one of the top track facilities in all of New England. These facilities are built first and foremost for women. We built this for our field hockey and our lacrosse teams. Women were first and foremost in our minds when we did this. And I think that's really important. Student: The team has a wonderful dynamic. We're all really great friends. We always get together. Priest: Mount Holyoke's Equestrian Center is recognized as one of the top educational and competitive facilities in the nation. We were very excited in the spring of 2010 to open a community boathouse. It gives our athletes an opportunity to practice and compete within a mile of our campus, on one of the most beautiful rivers in all of New England. As part of our fitness center renovation, our erg room was enlarged. The New England weather doesn't deter our tennis players. They have an opportunity to compete on twelve outdoor courts and six indoor courts throughout the year. Our field house also has five international glass-backed squash courts. Mount Holyoke recently renovated its activity field, which is a great venue for our competitive club teams. Mount Holyoke hosted the 2011 NEWMAC swimming and diving championships in our newly renovated natatorium. Our coaches challenge our students, but they also challenge themselves. They are continually doing research on the latest techniques and strategies within their sports. They are attending professional conferences and talking and sharing with each other. Student: Aldo is pretty much the best coach I've ever had in any sport, and I've played a lot of sports. Student: There's great coaching, a lot of support everywhere. I've learned so much in this past year. And just reflecting on it is very incredible. Student: It's just always nice, having something structured in the day, other than classes, that you know you can go to and just feel, OK, I'm here, I've got a goal, and I'm gonna go for it.
