Vélodrome d'Anvers Zuremborg

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Vélodrome d'Anvers Zuremborg was a velodrome located in Antwerp, Belgium. A 400-metre track, it hosted the track cycling events for the 1920 Summer Olympics and the UCI Track Cycling World Championships that year. The British media referred to the venue as The Garden City Velodrome.

The golden Italian team of the team pursuit in the Garden City Velodrome during the 1920 Summer Olympics (Franco Giorgetti, Ruggero Ferrario, Arnaldo Carli and Primo Magna).

Located in the Wilrijk district, the Garden City Velodrome was ceremonially opened on June 28, 1914, the day of the assassination of Franz Ferdinand of Austria, which sparked a World War in which the cycling track was hardly used. Twelve years later, the velodrome was demolished in 1925 to make way for new homes.[1]
